Haikus for Hummus
- 1 15oz can of chickpeas (or 2 1/2 cups)
- 2 cloves garlic
- juice of 1 medium lemon
- 1/3 cup water (use some of the chickpea water)
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- some olive oil
- optional: some Tabasco sauce

Drain and rinse chickpeas
Be sure to save some liquid
You’ll need it later.

Roughly chop garlic
Put in blender with spices
Next, the tahini.

Half the lemon juice
Into the blender as well
Chickpea liquid, too

Now, pulse to combine
Add the chickpeas; pulse again
But it might not blend

If it is too thick
Add olive oil and water
Maybe lemon juice

If you want boldness
Mix in some Tabasco sauce
It adds a nice touch

Once smoothness is good
Top with parsley and olive oil
Serve with warm pitas
